Unity is Strength: Tribute to Fighters Combating COVID-19

On August 4, 2020, under the guidance of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province, the special exhibition Unity is Strength: Tribute to Fighters Combating COVID-19, jointly organized by the Guangdong Museum and Southern Metropolis Daily, opened on the 3rd floor of the Guangdong Museum.
This exhibition marks the first attempt to curate through a “museum + media” collaboration, bringing together museum professionals and media practitioners to present the full course of the fight against the epidemic. It features more than 500 photographs and over 120 objects and sets of artifacts that document Guangdong’s battle against COVID-19 from multiple perspectives. Through these displays, the exhibition presents a comprehensive and vivid portrait of the people’s collective fight against the virus and pays tribute to every individual involved. The exhibits include frontline medical workers’ letters of request to join the battle, protective supplies, promotional leaflets, entry-exit passes from communities, as well as artworks—calligraphy, painting, sculpture, music—created in response to the epidemic. These pieces stand as powerful testimony to the nationwide effort and embody a microcosm of Guangdong’s and the nation’s struggle against COVID-19, recording the determination and contributions made by all sectors of society.
The exhibition consists of two parts. The first part, “Against the Current,” presents four sections—National Mobilization, Guangdong Supporting Hubei, Protecting Guangdong, and International Assistance—showing how various parties aided Wuhan after the outbreak, how Guangdong supported Hubei, implemented preventive measures locally, ensured treatment and protection, and extended assistance internationally. This part takes visitors deep into the frontline of the anti-epidemic effort. The second part, “Tribute,” highlights the contributions of medical staff, police officers, community workers, delivery couriers, and volunteers, allowing visitors to feel the collective strength and unwavering resolve of the Guangdong people in united action against the epidemic.
Through this exhibition, visitors gain a more vivid understanding of the nationwide struggle against the pandemic and experience the profound sense of shared fate, mutual support, and collective responsibility that defines the Chinese nation—along with the powerful unity that enabled victory over the epidemic.
The exhibition runs until September 15.
