From Rembrandt to Monet: 500 Years of European Painting

From Rembrandt to Monet: 500 Years of European Painting is an international touring exhibition featuring masterpieces from the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Clowes Collection. 60 carefully selected works—renowned for their exceptional technique and artistic value—provide an overview of artistic developments from the 14th to the 19th century, spanning regions from southern Italy to the Netherlands and Great Britain. Highlights include works by Titian, Rubens, Rembrandt, Monet, Gauguin, and other iconic European masters. Crossing geographical and chronological boundaries, the exhibition encompasses major periods and pivotal movements in European art history, from the Renaissance to the Industrial Revolution, a time of unprecedented economic expansion and dramatic social change that transformed artistic sensibilities.
By presenting the greatest artistic achievements, museums aspire to educate and inspire the public. We believe art elevates those who encounter it, strengthens personal conviction, advances craftsmanship and industry, and ultimately encourages the pursuit of the good. In the spirit of “cultural exchange and mutual learning” and in support of cultural communication under Belt and Road Initiative, we hope this exhibition deepens public understanding of art and culture worldwide and encourages a more global perspective on the world we share.
