On June 21, 2024, the Guangdong Museum unveiled a landmark exhibition—Art of the Roman Empire: Exhibition of the Ancient Treasures from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. Co-organized with the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, the exhibition presents 98 representative works from the Roman Empire, offering visitors in China a cross-temporal artistic journey. The exhibition runs until October 13, 2024.
All exhibits come from the collections of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. Some were unearthed from the sites of Herculaneum and Pompeii, while others are heirlooms from the Farnese Collection. The exhibition encompasses sculptures, frescoes, mosaic panels, silverware and glassware. Through six thematic lenses—“Artistic Language,” “Portraiture,” “Colour,” “Prevailing Customs,” “Banquet Culture,” and “Techniques”—the exhibition provides a comprehensive understanding of art and life during the Roman Empire.
