Guided by the China Cultural Relics Exchange Center and the Guangdong Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration, and hosted by the Guangdong Museum, the exhibition is co-organized by the Turin City Council, the Fondazione Torino Musei, and the Palazzo Madama – Museo civico d'arte antica, with support from the Consulate General of Italy in Guangzhou, the Regional Council of Piedmont, the Residences of the Royal House of Savoy, UNESCO, the Royal Castle of Racconigi, and Beijing Wenze Times Cultural and Art Co., Ltd. It is the first major exhibition in China to present a comprehensive narrative of the House of Savoy, marking the global debut of this exhibition, with all artifacts traveling to China for the first time.
Featuring exquisite treasures from the Palazzo Madama – Museo civico d'arte antica and the Royal Castle of Racconigi, the exhibition spans diverse categories such as coins, paintings, furniture, tapestries, porcelain, lacquerware, silverware, costumes, textiles, and fans. Together, these exhibits fully present the courtly life and artistic trends of the House of Savoy in the 18th century, as well as the flourishing Chinoiserie trend that swept across Europe. The exhibition also highlights export artworks from the Guangdong Museum’s own collection, showcasing Guangzhou—the central hub of “Chinoiserie” art exports along the Maritime Silk Road—as a bridge of aesthetic exchange between East and West. Through this cross-cultural dialogue, the exhibition attempts to create a three-dimensional and vivid picture of the life of the House of Savoy in the 18th century, allowing visitors to experience, across time and space, the splendor and sophistication of the court life in Turin.
